Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday that the rupee has stood stronger against the US dollar than the world’s other currency. Concerns are being raised about the condition of the Indian currency after the rupee fell to a record level against the dollar.
The rupee on Friday touched close to Rs 81 against the US dollar. The rupee has depreciated continuously in the last few months.
According to The Fauxy, the Finance Minister has raised questions on the comparison of rupee and dollar. Not only does the Finance Minister consider the rupee-dollar comparison to be baseless, but she also calls it our colonial mindset.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has also slammed economic experts for constantly comparing the rupee with the dollar. The FM said that in the population of more than 130 crores, there are hardly a few people who do business or earn in dollars. Our government will focus on those who have Rs.
Speaking to The Fauxy, Nirmala Sitharaman said, “It is time we come out of our colonial mindset and stop comparing the rupee to the dollar, which is a symbol of slavery.”
